ANALYSIS

Sumo
  • Sumo is a three-dimensional structural modeller and building information modelling (BIM) software. With Sumo you can build 3D models of structures using physical structural components such as beams, columns and slabs.
  • Sumo shields you from the complexities of finite element analysis without while still keeping you in control of the finer details.
Frame
  • Frame Analysis performs static and dynamic analyses of framed structures made up of beam, shell and/or solid finite elements.
PS Plane Stress / Strain
  • The program analyses membrane structures of any general shape, including openings.
  • The cases of plane stress and plane strain are both supported. Element grids are automatically generated with a customisable grid size.
Single Span Beam Analysis
  • The Beam on Elastic Support Analysis module can be used to quickly analyse a beam or slab on an elastic foundation.
  • The beam cross-section may vary along its length and the elastic foundation can include gaps and rigid supports.

STEEL

Member Design For Axial Stress
  • The steel member design modules primarily act as post-processors for the frame analysis modules.
  • Both modules also have an interactive mode for the quick design or checking of individual members without needing to perform a frame analysis.
  • Use Strut for checking and optimising steel members subjected to axial stress only, e.g. truss members.
Member Design For Combined Stress
  • The steel member design modules primarily act as post-processors for the frame analysis modules.
  • Both modules also have an interactive mode for the quick design or checking of individual members without needing to perform a frame analysis.
  • Com is used for checking and optimising steel members subjected to a combination of axial and uniaxial or biaxial bending stresses, e.g. beams and columns in frames.
Crane Gantry Girder Design
  • The Crane Gantry Girder Design module can be used to design and optimise multi-span crane gantry girders with one or two cranes. Girders may be continuous or simply supported.
  • The program supports multiple combinations of main beams and capping beams, including standard I-sections, plate girders and box girders.
Plate Girder Design
  • The Plate Girder Design module can be used to design I-shaped welded plate girders.
  • The program checks the behaviour of girders under specified loading and gives guidance regarding bearing and intermediate stiffeners.
Base Plate Design
  • The Base Plate Connection Design module designs column base plates subjected to axial force and bi axial moment.
  • You can use the program to design either stiffened or unstiffened base plates.
  • Base plates can bear directly on concrete or grout or can be supported on studs.
  • The program includes functionality to generate detailed drawings of connection for editing and printing using Padds or other CAD systems
Beam Column Design & Apex Connection
(Moment Connection Design)
  • The moment connection design modules can analyse connections that transmit shear, moment and axial force.
  • Only forces in the plane of the connection are considered, i.e. vertical shear, axial compression or tension and in-plane moment.
  • The connections may be bolted or welded.
Hallow Section Connection Design
  • The Hollow Section Connection Design performs design checks on hollow section joints in lattice structures.
  • The connecting members transmit axial force and can be circular, square or rectangular hollow sections.
  • The main chord can be I-sections or H-sections (wide flange beams).
Shear Connection Design
  • The shear connection design modules calculate the maximum resistance of bolt and weld groups.
  • The modules also determine the smallest bolt or weld size that can be used to resist an in plane force with arbitrary orientation.
  • In the case of bolt groups, both the cases of single and double shear can be considered.
  • The groups are analysed using either linear or non-linear strength relationships.

CONCRETE

Continuous Beam Slab Design
  • Designs single and multi-span reinforced concrete beams and slabs. Sections can be rectangular, T, L or I-shaped.
  • The program can analyse sub-frames (including columns) and automates the pattern loading and moment redistribution at ultimate limit state. It also calculates elastic and long-term deflections that include the effects of concrete cracking, shrinkage and creep.
  • You can also use the program to generate reinforcement and detailed bending schedules for a variety of beam and slab configurations.
  • Continuous Beam and Slab Design can be used on its own or as a post-processor for frame analyses in Sumo Structural Modeller and Frame Analysis.
  • Using the Design Links function in those modules, you can transfer beams complete with geometry and moment and shear force envelopes to this module for detailed design and reinforcement detailing.
Captain: Prestressed Concrete Design
  • Used to design and detail most types of continuous prestressed beam and slab systems encountered in typical building projects.
  • The design incorporates automated pattern loading and moment redistribution. Both unbounded systems, e.g. flat slabs, and bonded systems, e.g. bridge decks, can be designed.
  • Estimates for quantities are calculated and tendon profile schedules can be generated for use with Padds.
Rectangular Slab Design
  • The Rectangular Slab Panel Design module designs rectangular reinforced concrete flat slab panels with a variety of edge supports.
  • The program is suitable for designing slab panels with approximately rectangular layouts; use Space Frame Analysis to design slabs with irregular panel layouts and openings.
Rectangular And Circular Column Design
  • The concrete column design modules are suitable for the design of the following column types:
  • Rectangular Column Design, RecCol: Solid rectangular columns of which the larger column dimension does not exceed four times the smaller dimension.
  • Circular Column Design, CirCol: Solid circular columns where the simplified design approach applicable to rectangular columns may be applied.
  • General Column Design, GenCol: Columns of any general shape and columns with openings.
  • All column design modules can design reinforced concrete columns subjected to bi-axial bending. Bending schedules can be generated for editing and printing using the PROKON Drawing and Detailing System, Padds.
Concrete Retaining Wall Design
  • The Retaining Wall Design module is used to analyse retaining walls for normal soil and surcharge loads or seismic load conditions. Various types of walls can be considered, including cantilever, simply supported and propped cantilever walls.
Concrete Base Design
  • Designs rectangular column bases for stability and strength. The program also generates reinforcement bending schedules.
Section Design For Cracked Widths
  • Used to design reinforced concrete sections to meet specific crack requirements. Both beam and slab sections can be designed for the combined effects of axial tension, bending moment and temperature.
Concrete Section Design
  • A simple utility for designing concrete sections for combined bending, shear and torsion. Rectangular and T-sections are accommodated.
Punchin Shear Design
  • Designs reinforced concrete flat slabs for punching shear around columns.

TIMBER AND MASONRY

Continuous Beam Slab Design
  • The timber member design module, Timsec, is used to check and optimise timber members subjected to a combination of axial and biaxial bending stresses, e.g. beams, frames and trusses.
  • The program primarily acts as a post-processor for the frame analysis modules.
  • It also has an interactive mode for the quick design or checking of individual members without needing to perform a frame analysis.
Masonry Section And Wall Design
  • The masonry section design module, MasSec, is mainly used for the design of members such as lintels and masonry that span large openings in walls. MasWall, on the other hand is ideally suited for the design of wall panels and bearing walls.
  • Code of practice support is currently limited to SABS 0164-1992. Characteristic compression strengths for masonry units are calculated based on unit geometry, nominal strengths and tables in the abovementioned code of practice.
  • All the masonry modules provide a detailed Calcsheet on design methodology and results, i.e. a complete record of the design is generated automatically. Current development includes support for reinforced masonry walls, columns and arc

CAD AND DETAILING

Padds
  • Concrete detailing, general purpose CAD and model generation for PROKON analysis modules.
  • Al the basic CAD procedures are available to create or edit drawings. Elements like lines, arcs, circles, splines, text, hatch, dimensions, blocks, and construction lines are all supported with a host of editing functions.
  • Using an innovative approach to layers and scales, laying out details on a drawing sheet is very intuitive.
  • The program has a large number of reinforcement detailing functions. You can work with reinforcement bending schedules created with the concrete design modules, or create drawings and schedules from scratch.

GENERAL

ProSec
  • Calculates the bending, shear and torsional properties of any arbitrary section.
Wind Analysis
  • Calculates the free stream velocity pressure applicable to a building structure, and then considers the internal and external pressure coefficients for the given building geometry to calculate the design wind loads on the walls and roof
Gutter And Downpipe Design
  • The program can evaluate roof drainage systems subjected to intense short duration rains.
  • It takes into account the shapeof the gutter, the outlet into which the gutter discharges and the pipe-work that conveys the flow to below.

GEOTECHNICAL

Generalized Slope Analysis
  • SLOPBG is a slope stability computer program which uses Bishop’s Modified Method (1955) of analysis for the evaluation of the stability of generalized soil slopes.
  • The ratio of mobilizing and resisting moments on individual slices is used to determine the factor of safety. The slope may be subjected to line and uniformly distributed imposed loads, it may be reinforced with metal strips or geofabric, it may be clad with for example a masonry block wall, and it may be stabilized with anchors.
  • The force profile of the anchor reinforcement may also be input.
Generalized Non-Circular Slip Analysis
  • SLOPNC, a generalized non-circular slope stability program, uses the non-vertical slice method as proposed by Sarma (1979), for the prediction of the factor of safety of general shape surfaces.
  • As the boundaries are non-vertical, structural features such as faults or discontinuity planes may be included.
  • Water pressures, external loadings and reinforcement are included, to make the analysis as generalised as possible.
Tetrahedral Wedge Analysis
  • Determines the factor of safety (FOS) of a tetrahedral wedge that may form in a rock slope by the intersection of two planar discontinuities, the slope face, and the upper slope with or without a tension crack in the upper slope.
  • The deterministic analysis mode is supplemented by a probabilistic mode to evaluate the effect that the range of input values have on the FOS.
  • The probability density function of the FOS is obtained using simulation techniques.
Planar Failure In Rock Slopes
  • Evaluates the ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundations.
  • The foundation may be circular, square or rectangular, the base and the external ground slope may be angled and the forces and moments imposed on the base may be from any direction.
  • The drained and undrained conditions are evaluated.
Bearing Capacity Of Shallow Foundations
  • The majority of rock masses, some granular soils and some dense sands, exhibit non-linear shear strength (ç) /normal stress(å) failure envelopes.
  • The program ROCKJRM evaluates this non-linear shear strength envelope for a range of input parameters. Output may consist of instantaneous cohesion and friction values or the actual shear strength for a given normal stress.
  • Deterministic and probabilistic mode are supported.
Shear Strength Of Joined Rock Masses
  • Evaluates the shear strength failure envelope for rough joints in rock. The analysis may be performed in deterministic
  • In probabilistic mode the range of input parameters are generated using simulation techniques to generate a probability density distribution of the output shear strength
  • The user is presented with the choice of two theories as advanced by Ladanyi and Archambault (1970) and Barton (1971a/b,73).
Pile Bearing Capacity Analysis
  • The Pile Bearing Capacity module, Pile, calculates the bearing capacity of piles.
  • The capacity calculations take into account the effects of pile length and diameter, installation type and soil conditions.
